_______
It was a sunny morning in Nerima. The inhabitants of the Tendo
Dojo were eating the hearty asagohan that the eldest of the Tendo sisters
had made.
The pig-tailed girl was absent-mindedly picking at her food.
<Why does it have to be like this?> she asked herself. Beside her was a
giant panda pawing happily at the fishcakes, growling at what the head of
the dojo was saying. Opposite these were the Tendo sisters.
The eldest (the one who prepared the meal) was smiling contentedly
as she observed her sisters' and her father's and the panda's
appreciation of the meal.
The middle sister poised the chopsticks in mid-air before slipping
the piece of fish into her mouth. She made sure that her food wouldn't
stain her uniform. Besides that, she didn't want to waste a succulent
piece of fishmeat.
And, lastly, was the youngest Tendo, chomping everything down like
a growing young man. <I wonder what all those freaks in Furinkan High
see in this tomboy?> the pig-tailed girl asked herself. <She's such a
slob. Such a dumb tomboy. A macho chick who can be dumber than a
brick.> The red-head sighed. <Why should I even bother thinking about
her? Duh!>
With that, she proceeded to finish off her meal with lightning
speed.
These kids should hurry or they'd be late. The three of them
sensed that, and so, they finished at the same time. Nabiki was first to
get out of the household, followed shortly by Akane and Ranma.
Kasumi smilingly waved at the two.
It was physical ed class, so the girls of Furinkan High were
already getting into their sweatshirts and gym shorts when they all felt
this odd chill in the air. They all felt that something was watching
them.
Akane realized that she knew what it was, but she wasn't sure. She
glanced at Ranma. Ranma was also looking at her and seemed to be
thinking the same thoughts.
<What the hell?> Ranma thought. <Something creepy's out there...
it couldn't be...> Ranma shrugged. Whatever it was that bothered her,
she just shrugged it off. She knew that it couldn't be what she was
thinking. Then again...
Akane saw that shadow of worry that passed Ranma's face for a
fleeting second. <Seems to me that we're both worried about the same
thing,> Akane said to herself.
The other girls didn't seem to mind. They were chatting about
Kuno's phoenix, Kodachi's latest move in martial arts gymnastics (they
apparently had a competition coming up soon and it would really help to
have some spies) and other things that really have no relevance
whatsoever to our two worried friends - Akane and Ranma.
WHOOOSH!!! - A gust of chilly winds opened the girls' lockers one
at a time with the speed of light!
"NANI SORE???" Ranma exclaimed. She felt a powerful aura. It was
a person with strong chi.
She didn't think of the others. She felt that she has to chase
this so-called thing. Until she stopped this thing, only then would she
only know what on earth it was.
She ran madly at this thing: over the lockers, amidst the flurry of
feminine articles, while the other girls were screaming and flailing
their arms in a state of panic over the unseen. As their cries increased
in decibels, the "thing" or "wind" increased its speed. Ranma
desperately fought to keep up with this thing.
Akane was doing the same. And the weird part was that chasing
after this "thing" really seemed so familiar. The speed, the style of
its attack on their locker room -- what could it be? It was already two
and a half years since they last experienced such an attack and they
haven't had any ever since.
She slammed against the closing doors of the lockers thrice and got
several nasty bruises for that but she was compelled to catch that thing.
However, she wasn't that fast anymore so she couldn't keep up. Besides,
she was already full of bruises. She couldn't stand the pain anymore.
It was a long time she had such a chase. She didn't know where in the
school she was already chasing the thing after a while.
Ranma felt so tired but she couldn't stop chasing after this thing.
She didn't understand her reaction. It seemed like a reflex action of a
sort. She didn't see that she was already chasing this thing outside
their campus. Everything around her already seemed like a blur since she
started chasing that thing.
Akane was so tired of chasing the "thing". So tired that she
didn't see...
A TREE!!!
"NOOOO!!!" Ranma screamed.
BAM!
"Watch where you're going!" Ranma screamed at Akane. Akane's body
was sprawled over Ranma's. They collided chasing that thing, whatever
the hell it was.
"Well, watch where you're going too, Ranma!" Akane retorted,
standing up. She put her hands on her hips. "As if you knew where
you were going. You were chasing 'it' as blindly as I was!"
Ranma, of course, wouldn't admit that. "Oh yeah? How sure are
you, Akane? How would you know?" Ranma stood there, with her hands on
her hips as well. The two girls were glaring at each other. Both of
them hated the way they handled this. They were chasing that thing
blindly. Like it was what was called a 'wild goose chase' or something
like that. Crazy, huh? Well, here they were, trying to place the blame
on the other. But they knew that they couldn't. Ranma as a girl
couldn't run as fast as she could when he's a guy. Akane, on the other
hand, couldn't run as fast because she's not doing much training anymore.
"Now what? That thing's gone!"
Akane felt like it was her fault. Ranma sounded as if she was
putting the blame on Akane. That wasn't true. How could it have been
her fault? She tried. <Who does he think he is? He wasn't able to
chase it either so how could Ranma put the blame on me? That's crap.>
Akane thought. She was nearly in tears. She turned her back to Ranma
and ran away.
<Now what did I do?> Ranma tried to figure out what she did wrong.
<Duh, Akane!> Ranma just shook her head and started to walk away.
Kasumi was slicing carrots when Akane came into the kitchen. Akane
looked forlorn, as if she felt that a ton was on her shoulders, or if a
knife was stabbing her heart, or if she held a block of ice for several
hours. Tears were brimming in her eyes.
<I wonder what happened in school today. Did Ranma do anything?>
Kasumi asked herself. "Hi there, Akane," Kasumi smiled.
"Hi, Kasumi," Akane said. She half-heartedly smiled at Kasumi.
"Can I help you cook supper?" Akane asked. She had this puppy-dog look
in her eyes. <The kind of look when they're really sad.>
Kasumi thought that, with this mood, Akane might actually be able
to cook better because she didn't have enough energy to spend on chopping
vegetables. Then again, it might actually bring them more trouble. A
sad Akane is simply a sad Akane who needs their care and encouragement.
"How about if you just go into your room and rest, Akane?" Kasumi
suggested. "You look rather tired. I'll just bring you a snack later,
okay?"
Akane shrugged. "Whatever you say." She went out of the kitchen.
<Maybe Kasumi thinks that I might ruin our supper so she asked me
to go into my room. Nah. Kasumi's not like that,> Akane said to herself
as she walked. <A nap would probably help me.>
She changed her clothes then started to get into the bed. <That's
funny. Some of my blouses and skirts aren't here. Kasumi wouldn't wash
them because I haven't worn them in two weeks time. Maybe I'm just
tired.>
A light breeze entered her room. She slipped under the covers of
her bed and slept.
Kasumi was fixing some tea when Ranma entered the kitchen.
Ranma looked puzzled. "Hello there, Ranma," Kasumi said.
<Something was up. Now I really wonder what happened in school today,>
Kasumi said to herself.
"Hiya, Kasumi," Ranma replied. "What's that you're fixing?" It
was obviously tea but Ranma was at a loss to make good conversation with
anyone that day. <Dumb question,> Ranma told himself sternly.
Kasumi smiled at her. "I'm making tea for Akane. Would you like
some, too?"
"Never mind."
"You're sure?"
"Yeah."
"Okay," Kasumi just shrugged it off. Ranma seemed awfully quiet.
She wondered if the two had a quarrel or something. Probably.
They usually did. Ranma's got this sad look on her face. She felt that
Ranma somehow blamed Akane for something that afternoon. As usual.
Lately, they had been getting along well, except for a few spats
here and there. They were looking more like fiancé and fiancée nowadays.
Ranma (even though she's a girl) hangs around Akane like this blackguard.
Kasumi found it sweet and rather gentlemanly of Ranma. This, however,
she did not tell the two kids. They could think that she was going
crazy.
Well, she was going crazy, trying to figure out when these two
would finally admit their feelings for each other. It was a game in the
Tendo Dojo since Ranma came in with his dad.
Kasumi shrugged and smiled to herself. <Whatever,> she thought and
placed the teacups and the teapot on a small black lacquer tray.
"I'll do that, Kasumi," Ranma offered. "I'll bring that to Akane."
"Thank you, Ranma. That's so nice of you."
"Nah. I just want to check on her." Ranma turned her heel and
went to Akane's room.
"This is just so weird..." Akane mumbled. She couldn't really
sleep. <Dammit. What the hell is eating me? For crying out loud!>
Akane scolded herself.
There she was, already comfortable in her soft bed, yet all she
could think about was that afternoon's events.
<Crap.> Akane didn't want to think about it anymore. The more she
tried to understand what the crap was wrong with Ranma, or her, the more
she wanted to wrap herself in the bedsheets.
A soft knock was heard. "Come in," Akane said.
"Hi, Akane," Ranma said. "Kasumi made you tea and she still has
lots to do, so I offered to bring you this." She looked at Akane.
"So... you don't mind?"
"Mind? Why should I?" Akane uttered. She sounded withdrawn.
Akane was half-lying on the bed, her back turned to Ranma. <How could he
do this to me? Going into my room at a time like this!> Akane thought.
<He's really crazy. Such a jerk.>
"Hey, I'm sorry, Akane. I'm telling you that I'M SORRY. Akane, I
just think that you could've been more careful about that thing that we
chased this afternoon. That's all," Ranma told Akane as he sat down on
the edge of Akane's bed. She looked at Akane and cursed herself. Why
couldn't she be more tactful? Why can't she be more caring? Why do the
things that she really wanted to tell Akane not seem to come out right?
<Ranma Saotome, you are getting crazy! You don't know how to act around
your fiancée!> was the sentiment that echoed in his mind. It made his
head throb in pain.
Akane didn't know what to say. It seemed that Ranma was putting
some extra effort into being nice to her. Akane turned around to look at
him and saw him fidgeting. <He's actually fidgeting.> Akane said to
herself. <Does he really mean to be nice to me?>
She looked at him squarely. Ranma met her gaze. Whatever.
This was strange. They were feeling something for each other. (Or
were they simply realizing this?)
They continued to stare at each other, wondering whether or not
this was really happening. To actually hear Ranma say those nice words
in that manner - to see Akane looking so sad that Ranma would like to
give her a warm hug to make her feel more secure -
<How I'd like to see Akane very happy!> Ranma thought all of a
sudden.
<You're not such a jerk, Ranma,> Akane wanted to tell Ranma then
and there.
And these kids didn't even notice how the gap between them grew
smaller.
Ranma looked into Akane's eyes. She saw her female form reflected
in them. She shook her head. <I can't. I shouldn't,> Ranma scolded
herself and softly said, "Akane."
Akane's heart leaped with that "Akane" that Ranma said. It was
probably the way that he said that. She felt so warm all over. "Ranma,"
Akane said. "It's okay, really. It was my fault."
Ranma wished she was a guy that moment. She was thinking very much
like a guy, with the wants of a growing boy. She wanted to feel Akane
beside him, in his arms or her arms around him. But Ranma's girl form
made her feel like such a pervert. They were still there, staring at
each other, all alone in Akane's room. It was a tricky situation.
However, Ranma couldn't stand the turmoil inside her: her pride was
warring against what her body dictated. She had to do something about
this.
He patted her cheek and whispered, "Akane, I shall take care of you
no matter what it takes." He walked out of her room.
Akane could still feel the light pressure of Ranma's fingertips on
her face. She closed her eyes. She couldn't believe what Ranma told
her. It seemed so wonderfully real, though. <I think that I'm
dreaming... Something's wrong with me,> her conscience dictated. She
took a sip of Kasumi's tea then slept with a ghost of a smile on her
face.
Someone's happy about the things that he got from the day's raid.
Hmmm... pink, yellow, red, white, lilac... Some of them are lacy, some
of them just plain cotton... He was washing them in the Tendo backyard.
The panda or the master of the dojo?
"It's Master Happosai, Father," Kasumi said when her father asked
who it was who came to visit.
The little old man entered the dojo, breathing in the aroma of
whatever Kasumi was preparing. His sense of smell was truly sensitive,
so he even figured out whatever it was that was chef's discretion with
what Kasumi was cooking. Soun welcomed him.
"Master Happosai! How kind of you to give us a visit after all
these years!" Soun exclaimed, but in his mind was another idea: <What is
he doing here again? The neighborhood will think that the Saotomes and I
are big perverts! With him raiding their laundry for lingerie... For
goodness' sake, Master, stop it. You're so sick.> With that last line,
Soun wanted to vomit.
"Saotome! What on earth are you still doing with that panda bit?"
Master Happosai told Genma, giving him a strong poke at the knees.
"Can't you stand there like a man?"
"Gwowrr gwowrr..." Genma the panda replied. He didn't like seeing
the master either, after all the hard training they underwent when they
were teenagers and all the trouble that he caused when he last came to
Nerima. The panda just growled and growled. The little old man went
into the kitchen.
"Ah! Seems like Kasumi's still the same. A good cook still!"
Happosai tasted the sushi and teriyaki that Kasumi prepared that
afternoon. "Dr. Tofu's a lucky man." The Master winked at Kasumi.
Kasumi blushed. She thought that Dr. Tofu was a one in a million
men - so kind and patient. But she didn't say that out loud. The men
probably knew it by now.
"We can eat now, Father, Uncle Saotome and Master Happosai. We can
call Nabiki and Akane for supper now." She turns on her heel and calls
her sisters for the meal.
Master Happosai was smiling to himself. For more reasons than one.
Kasumi had gotten used to checking the household's locks late in
the night so that she wouldn't get lock anyone out of the house. The
truth was that she didn't really like it, but she had to do it that way
for everyone's sake and peace of mind.
Tonight, the Master was in residence, so she did that later because
she knew that the Master will be out very late "doing things."
Kasumi was walking towards the front door when she heard noises.
<That's odd,> Kasumi thought. <Where's it coming from?>
She groggily turned her head and spied her surroundings.
<Where is it coming from?> She shrugged. <I'm probably imagining
things. I'm so sleepy.>
Kasumi yawned then she just went on her way to the front door. She
locked it then she checked the other doors. <That's odd. I wonder
what's bothering Master Happosai. His light is still on. Maybe the
noise comes from there.> No matter how sleepy she was, Kasumi was able
to go to Master Happosai's room.
She was outside his room. She listened to the sounds that Happosai
created with a bunch of clothes. At least that's what she supposed,
because it was a rustling-of-the-cloth kind of sound. She didn't know
why Happosai would make such a noise in the middle of the night.
Could it be because he didn't like the bed sheets, like they caused
skin irritation or something? That was crazy. Kasumi washed the
bedsheets well, so it couldn't have been that. That was why Kasumi
assumed that it was clothes that Happosai used to create those
noises.
She peeked dazedly into Happosai's room.
"Hahahahahaha!" Happosai was laughing to himself. He was
surrounded by lingerie and other feminine articles of clothing. He was
more than happy. He was *ecstatic*. He felt like drifting into the
clouds because of the ton of lingerie that he had with him. He counted
what he had. He even sorted them by color and by type (lacy or not). He
had this big mirror in front of him and he could clearly see the big
smile on his face.
What Happosai didn't know was that Kasumi was quietly observing him
with her mind, which was spinning. He didn't realize that Kasumi saw him
trying on the brassieres for size.
Master Happosai usually wore the brassieres on his head. And now
he's actually trying it on for size. <I must be very sleepy. I think
I'm imagining things> Kasumi's conscience warned her. And... can it be
that Kasumi was seeing Happosai wear Akane's blouse?
<Akane's blouse feels so comfortable.> It was silken but not
exactly silk. It was powder blue with a bow by the neck. Happosai felt
so great wearing them. He envied Ranma because he had more chances of
wearing these in public because he transforms into a girl. Right now,
due to Cologne's techniques, Ranma and Genma couldn't change back into
human with hot water because they would go itchy all over.
What's the point of going back to your normal self when you
couldn't do anything about the itchiness? You'd look like a fool going
around scratching yourself. Dr. Tofu was still trying to look for the
reverse of this shiatsu but to no avail.
Anyway, Happosai paraded around the room preening himself, telling
himself how good he looked in Akane's blouse. The next thing he did was
wear some other girl's white skirt. <Oooh, Happy. That looks really
nice on you! You beautiful creature!> Happosai smiled to himself in
front of the mirror. Then he danced around. (He was wearing some little
girl's sandals.) He was singing softly so as not to disturb the ones who
were already asleep. Theoretically, that meant everyone.
Kasumi was getting more and more worried about her eyesight. Could
it be that she already needed glasses because she's seeing things? Or
maybe it was psychological help that she needed? She didn't know for
sure but what she was seeing was something like the greatest pervert of
them all parading in his room in girls' clothes. He even wore the
lingerie. Was that why he steals lingerie? Because he wants to wear
them? Why would he wear them? Does that mean that he's...? <That's
crazy, Kasumi,> she chided herself. <He's the Master of the Anything-
Goes Martial Arts. He can't be okama! Kasumi, go to sleep...>
Kasumi was once more preparing a meal. Another asagohan. Akane
woke up early and volunteered to help her with it. In a short while,
Ranma entered the kitchen as well. She wanted to help Kasumi, too.
Kasumi could sense that whatever friction Akane and Ranma had the
before was settled because the two were happily peeling the potatoes.
Akane even seemed to pare them right.
<At least they've settled things,> Kasumi smiled to herself, happy
for her sister and Ranma who are beginning to realize and show their true
feelings toward each other. However, she, Kasumi, still doesn't know
whether she simply had the weirdest dream the night before or what. Next
time she'll keep herself alert and more inconspicuous when closing the
doors at night.

her fault?
<He's really crazy. Such a jerk.>
_______
This is weird. I don't know how and why I wrote it this way. Probably
because I'm so depressed??? (Birthday blues, I suppose.)
Duh. Beats me.
